Con Respecto Ecuador:
Ecuador is on the equator (hence its name).
The capital, Quito, is served by regular direct flights from Miami, Newark,
and Houston. It is one of the few countries in the world that uses the US
Dollar as their currency. Prices are much lower than in the United States or
Europe. Be sure to bring home a fine Panama hat, one of the world famous
products of the country.
Ecuador is one of, if not THE most bio-diverse countries in the
world. It has twenty
percent of the world’s bird and plant species. There are “cloud” forests and
“rain forests”; “primary” forests and “secondary” forests. Quito is in a
valley at almost 10,000 feet and is surrounded by mountains. Two hours from
the center of Quito is the Mindo area which has the highest concentration of
butterflies in the world. It is in a rainforest! And on the way there, you
pass through DESERT valleys!!
Ecuador is a country about the size of Colorado. So it
is only a 30 minute flight from Quito in the Andes mountains to Coca in the
Amazon basin or 35 minutes to Manta on the Pacific coast and 45 minutes to
Cuenca in the southern sierras. Being on the equator, the weather is always
temperate although the so-called “wet” months are from October to March. The
temperatures depend on the altitude. Quito, where you will arrive, is at
9,350 feet so the average daily high is 75 F.
Ecuador also has the Galapagos Islands. But everyone
goes there. (Well, lots of people.)
And we can help you go there, too. We can also help you go to the Pacific
Coast if you wish, maybe for whale watching in season, but the Caribbean and
Hawaiian beaches are nicer. Besides, WE don’t like to be anyplace that is
inundated by cruise ship passengers. So, just for YOU we offer our special
custom tours to the rest of this magnificent country, namely the Andes and
the Amazon.
